What is a DIN 7983-C A4 Stainless Phillips Oval Head Tapping Screw?

DIN 7983-C tapping screws are metric self-tapping screws featuring a raised countersunk (oval) head, Phillips drive, and a Form C cone point. The raised countersunk head combines a 90° countersunk underside with a slightly domed top, allowing the screw to seat in a countersunk hole while leaving an attractive rounded profile above the surface.

The Form C cone point is designed to start easily in a pre-drilled hole while forming its own mating threads in sheet metal, plastics, and other suitable materials. Unlike machine screws, DIN 7983-C tapping screws are intended for use in untapped materials and should not be used with machine thread nuts or tapped holes.

DIN 7983-C has been superseded by ISO 7051, although the DIN designation remains widely recognized throughout industry. They are also known as Phillips oval head sheet metal screws, raised countersunk tapping screws, raised head self-tapping screws, oval head sheet metal screws, and ISO 7051 tapping screws.

What material is a DIN 7983-C A4 Phillips tapping screw made from?

DIN 7983-C screws are manufactured from A4 stainless steel (SAE Type 316 stainless steel), commonly referred to as marine-grade stainless steel. A4 stainless steel provides outstanding resistance to corrosion, saltwater, chlorides, moisture, and many chemicals, making it the preferred material for demanding outdoor, marine, and chemical environments.

The natural stainless finish offers long-term durability while maintaining a clean, professional appearance with minimal maintenance. The Phillips drive is one of the most widely recognized drive systems, providing quick and reliable installation using commonly available tools for production, maintenance, and repair applications.

Why choose an A4 stainless DIN 7983-C Phillips tapping screw?

A4 stainless DIN 7983-C screws combine exceptional corrosion resistance with efficient self-tapping performance and an attractive finished appearance. The Form C cone point starts easily in pre-drilled holes and forms its own mating threads during installation, eliminating the need for pre-tapped holes and reducing assembly time.

Compared to A2 stainless steel, A4 offers significantly greater resistance to saltwater, chlorides, and aggressive chemicals, making it the preferred choice for coastal, marine, food processing, pharmaceutical, and chemical processing environments. The Phillips drive allows for quick, dependable installation with standard tools, while the raised countersunk (oval) head provides a clean, decorative finished appearance wherever the fastener remains visible.

Where are DIN 7983-C A4 stainless Phillips tapping screws commonly used?

DIN 7983-C A4 stainless Phillips raised countersunk tapping screws are widely used in marine equipment, offshore installations, food processing machinery, pharmaceutical equipment, chemical processing plants, water treatment facilities, renewable energy systems, architectural hardware, transportation equipment, outdoor construction, and industrial machinery
