What is an ISO 14587 A2 Stainless Torx Oval Head Tapping Screw?
ISO 14587 oval head tapping screws are metric self-tapping fasteners designed to create their own mating threads in pre-drilled holes in sheet metal, plastics, and other suitable materials. Unlike machine screws, tapping screws are not intended for use in pre-tapped machine threads or with machine thread nuts.
The oval head combines a 90° countersunk underside with a slightly raised domed top, allowing the screw to seat in a countersunk hole while leaving an attractive rounded profile above the surface. Screw length is measured from the beginning of the countersunk undercut, where the raised oval head meets the 90° bearing surface, to the tip of the screw.
